Carrier oil vs. essential oil

If you are a fan of organic beauty products and aromatherapy then you are at the right place. We all know that we have many ranges of oils in the market and we use most of them daily such as coconut and olive oil (carrier) in food, lavender oil (essential) for aromatherapy, but one thing might kick your mind that what is the difference between these two categories? So here I will take you in the organic world of oils.

Carrier and essential oils both are highly beneficial to treat many skin diseases moreover these oils prevent bacterial infections, skin issues, hair problems and many more. You can find other blog posts regarding how different oils help us in different ways. First, we will discuss what carrier oil is.

Carrier oil:

Carrier oil is derived from the fatty portion of fruits, nuts, and seeds, also known as vegetable oils. They are commonly used in cooking as well as provide beneficial solution when diluted with essential oils. Carrier oils contain typical and heavier structure than the essential oils because of fatty acids, A, D, E, K substances and fatty vitamins. They are colorless and odorless, extracted directly through machines. They are called ‘CARRIER’ because they have tendency to absorb in skin easily. However, carrier oils are not being used in aromatherapy because they are not concentrated oils, carrier oils simply extend the life of essential oils. Here is a list of some common carrier oils:

  3. Rosehip ( it can also be steam stilled)
  4. Jojoba
  5. Castor
  6. Almond
  7. Pumpkin
  8. Black Seed
  9. Pomegranate
  10. Evening primrose

Essential oil:

Essential oils are highly concentrated oils which are steam stilled from direct plants, carries fragrance from the plants they are extracted, most often they are extracted from the stem and non-seed part of the plant. They are frequently used in aromatherapy but for skin and other treatments they must be diluted with a carrier oil. The essential oils are used with water in the case of aromatherapy and foot soaks. Essential oils are stored in dark bottles in cool temperature away from sunlight. Technically, these are not oils but hydrophobic liquids which are used with the help of carrier oil. They are used in diffusers evaporates in the air to relieve stress and for aromatherapy sessions. Some people face many allergic reactions to skin, especially if they don’t dilute in water or in a carrier oil, it requires some specific steps to use on skin. Some researchers stated that essential oils can be used for intake purposes but we don’t recommend you to intake these concentrated essential oils for many reasons. Essential oil helps to prevent especially from bacteria, fungus, pros arias, acne, freckles, bald scalp and can be treated as a medication for health but in different ways.
