5 More Ways Fashion Can Boost Your Confidence

Building confidence can be complicated. Focusing on your outer self to boost your inner self may feel confusing. But changing your clothing can actually help your self image by projecting the confidence and self-esteem your are trying to develop. Your apparel choices paint a picture of who you are and tell the world your story. Don’t underestimate the power of perception. And keep these five fashion factors in mind when you’re looking for ways to increase your confidence.

  1. Statements & Staples

Clothing is for occasions. They could be formal or casual, fun or serious. But wherever you’re going you need to have a base you are comfortable working with.

Statement pieces are articles of clothing that really say something. The usually pop with color, structure, embellishment, sophisticated style, a funky edge, a haute couture feel, or an eye-catching pattern. These pieces are big and bold, and will get you noticed when you walk into a room. Just be sure to smile and receive all those compliments.

Staple pieces are usually elegant but basic tops, bottoms and dresses that can be dressed up or down, and worn many different ways for many different occasions. They’re not trendy or attention seeking. They  typically include solid neutral colored blouses, slacks and blazers. They are flattering on your figure, and not too tight, revealing or flashy. They make you look classic and timeless.

  1. Color & Pattern

Finding flattering colors and prints it’s about trial and error. Your skin, tone hair cut and color, and eye color all play into what hues view best on you. If you look washed out or hard on the eyes, no matter how much you love it on the hanger, don’t wear it on your body. You may be able to get away with accessorizing with your favorite unflattering flavors, but used your figure to the fullest advantage and do what works for you.

  1. Color Coordination

Coordinating colors and prints is a bit tricky. If you are doing so to make a statement there are fewer rules to follow. Search for a color wheel online and match opposite colors together; these are called complimentary colors. This doesn’t always work but it is a start. Neutral colors include black, white, navy blue, charcoal gray, chocolate brown and khaki. These can almost universally be mixed and matched together, or with another color or print with shared colors. Try to keep bold, bright, muted and pastel colors together instead of mixing them. And pairing a solid with a boldly or heavily printed piece usually works best.

  1. Accessory Assistance

No outfit is complete without a special accessory. You have so many to choose from it may be overwhelming. So start small, with a beautiful bracelet, necklace, ring, belt, or hair clip. Then when you are comfortable with one, start combining accessories to strengthen the statement and really solidify the look. And if you’re on a budget remember that anyone can accessorize quickly, easily and inexpensively. Forgo name brand hand bags and Tiffany jewelry. Classy costume jewels, beaded pieces and handmade items will do just fine for any frugal fashionista.

  1. Tailor Your Clothes

Well-fitting clothes are the hallmark of a confident woman. Don’t despair when you find an amazing outfit with a few minor flaws. Tailoring can fix that wide waist, tight tush, long legs,or short sleeves. Getting the right fit is key to looking and feeling confident. So spend the extra few bucks to make it perfect for you.

Clothes do more than cover your body. Buying and wearing clothing with intention will create an aura of confidence and help you find it within yourself.
