How Non-Fashionista can be a Fashionista

I am a woman with a love for style and fashion but I am too lazy to do anything about it. Personally, I am not fond of shopping so I usually end up stealing my sister’s clothes or simply purchase things online, when needed. Fortunately, over the years my laid-back attitude has taught me how to dress to impress, and not going an extra mile for it. Here is how you can do the same:

1.      Embrace your beauty

One of my favorite style icons in Mindy Kaling, she is beautiful and flaunts her curves proudly. She has an ability to make every print or design look beautiful and sassy. If you are naturally curvy and have an hourglass body embrace it and make it work. Most of the red-carpet clothes that Mindy wears emphasizes her waist that enhances her hourglass body. Her bright color clothes teamed up with minimum accessories creates a perfect blend of comfort and style. Personally, I think she has a perfect wardrobe that deserves a blog of their own!

2.      Confidence is the key!

fashionistaIf you follow any Instagram fashionistas or fashion bloggers, you would realize that they have an ability to make the most outrageous clothes look presentable and beautiful. Sometimes I look at their pictures to inspire myself to get healthy but food always distracts me. Anyways, the secrets of these models and fashion bloggers are extensive research, way too much time and the most important thing self-confidence. At the end of the day, it is all about perception. If you feel comfortable and confident in what you are wearing, the world will look at you in a positive light and get inspired. Who knows, tomorrow you might create a new fashion trend!

3.      Get creative and accessorize

My best friend is hands down the best dressed, male style icon that I know off. He is Imran Umer aka Mr. Dubai 2015 (ladies please Google him, you will thank me later ?). One of the perks of being a model is getting access to all high-end clothes, FOR FREE! However, Imran is a very simple person whose style mantra is a combination of comfort and panache. Just like Mindy, he too plays a lot with bold colors but he always enhances the overall look by teaming up his clothes with the right accessory. Imran can make simple jeans and t-shirt work by adding a statement chain or by wearing a funky watch. He has inspired me to invest in some staple accessories to make my simple outfits looks stylish. Unlike him, my go to accessories are a statement necklace, my Doctor Who charm bracelet (nerd alert!) and a lot of confidence.

4.      Be picture ready and appreciate social media

Social media is a powerful tool that not only compels us to spend money on things that we don’t need but helps us acquire ego-boost my posting pictures and getting likes from our friends and family. The best way to show-off that new black dress you bought is by taking a selfie, use zillion filters to enhance the beauty and post it on Instagram. Always use a captivating caption to influence your followers. The other way could be identifying your best side or pose and ask a friend to take a picture. Or find good friends who would gladly be pro-bono photographers for you and spend hours taking multiple pictures of you, hear you complain and share their insights with you. You can always thank them by giving them a shout-out on your blog! Or a nice compliment works too.
